When we sleep well, it makes handling the challenges of daily life easier. We get more energy, more left over.
Good sleep makes it easier to perform better, easier to remember and easier to learn new things. We get a stronger immune system, and our bodies recover better. It makes it easier to find solutions for everyday problems, make quicker decisions and feel less anxiety and stress.
What happens when we sleep?
A good night’s sleep lets your body recover. Your muscles can relax, and your brain disconnects. You become rested and your body gets ready for a new day. New brain research indicates that sleep also functions as a washing machine for the brain. When we sleep, the brain can rinse out substances and waste that builds up over the course of the day.
How much sleep do we need?
Sleep is individual. Some people can get by with a lower number of hours, while others must sleep more to function well. The general recommendation for adults is 7 to 9 hours, and for teenagers, 8 to 10 hours.
